Get ready, musical theater fans! Heathers The Musical is shaking things up with some exciting cast changes, and the buzz is building! The show, which has already been extended three times Off-Broadway, is now slated to run through May 24, 2026 at New World Stages. That's a lot of chances to catch this darkly comedic gem!
Let's dive into the details, shall we?
First up, we have some familiar faces returning! McKenzie Kurtz will be reprising her role as the iconic Heather Chandler, starting Wednesday, November 19. And get ready to welcome a fresh face to the cast: Jackera Davis will be making her Off-Broadway debut as Heather Duke, beginning Thursday, December 11.
Davis is no stranger to the stage. Her impressive resume includes the national tour of Beetlejuice the Musical, All Shook Up at Goodspeed Musicals, Bye Bye Birdie at the Kennedy Center, and Footloose at Sacramento Music Circus. Talk about talent!
Now, here's where things get a little interesting. Kiara Michelle Lee, who currently plays Heather Duke, will continue in the role until Wednesday, December 10. After that, she'll be returning to her original role as Young Republicanette. Also, Thalia Atallah (known for her work in the National Tours of Mean Girls and Anastasia) will continue in the role of Young Republicanette through Wednesday, December 10.
And the excitement doesn't stop there! As previously announced, Kuhoo Verma (known for her work in The Big Sick, Plan B, and Octet) will be joining the cast on Thursday, December 11 as the new Veronica Sawyer. But here's where it gets controversial... Lorna Courtney will be playing her final performance as Veronica on Monday, December 8. Standby Sara Al-Bazali will step in to perform as Veronica on Wednesday, December 10.
Heathers is based on the cult classic film, and features book, music, and lyrics by the talented team of Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, and is directed by Andy Fickman. The show officially opened on July 10, 2025.
For those unfamiliar with the story, Heathers takes us to Westerberg High, where the social hierarchy is as cutthroat as it gets. Veronica Sawyer, a seemingly ordinary student, finds herself drawn into the world of The Heathers – a trio of popular girls who rule the school. But when the mysterious J.D. enters the picture, Veronica learns that being a somebody can come at a deadly price.
The current cast includes a host of talented performers, including:
- Lorna Courtney as Veronica Sawyer
- Casey Likes as Jason “J.D.” Dean
- McKenzie Kurtz as Heather Chandler
- Kiara Michelle Lee as Heather Duke
- Elizabeth Teeter as Heather McNamara
- Kerry Butler as Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s Mom
- Erin Morton as Martha Dunnstock
- Xavier McKinnon as Ram Sweeney
- Cade Ostermeyer as Kurt Kelly
- Ben Davis as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper
- Cameron Loyal as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan
