In a move that’s leaving Tampa radio listeners surprised and wondering what’s next, Nathan ‘Brody’ Halegua has signed off from his morning show duties at iHeartMedia's AC station, "Mix 100.7" (WMTX). After six years of waking up the Tampa Bay area, Brody's departure marks a significant shift in the local radio landscape.
Brody’s journey with WMTX began in April 2019 when he joined Laura Diaz as a co-host for the morning slot. However, since Diaz's departure in September – she left the radio world for a new opportunity outside the industry – Brody had been steering the ship solo. But here's where it gets controversial... some listeners felt the show lost a certain spark after Laura left. Do you agree that a co-host dynamic is essential for a successful morning show, or can a solo host shine just as brightly?
Before making the jump to mornings at WMTX, Brody spent a whopping eleven years within the iHeartMedia Tampa cluster. Many remember him fondly from his nighttime gig at CHR powerhouse 93.3 WFLZ, where he spun the hits from 2014 until his move to the AC station. And this is the part most people miss... Brody's extensive radio background actually stretches far beyond Tampa. His resume includes on-air stints at WFKS in Jacksonville, WJHM in Orlando, WKSS in Hartford, WXXL (also in Orlando), and KUPL in Portland. So, he's definitely a seasoned radio pro!
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Brody shared his thoughts on leaving WMTX: "Hanging up the headphones for a bit. My chapter at Mix has come to an end, and my heart is full as I look back on this (almost) six-year record breaking journey. To my incredible listeners and partners, thank you. You showed up for me every morning, and I can’t tell you how much that support, laughter, and loyalty has meant. You invited me into your homes, your cars, and your routines, a privilege I’ll never take for granted.
I hope I brought a smile, a moment of connection, or a little fun to your mornings because you certainly did that for me. You made every early alarm worth it, and I’ll always carry that with me.
This isn’t the ending I pictured, and it’s not easy to say goodbye. But I’m leaving with gratitude for the opportunities given to me, pride in the work I’ve done, and a strong sense of my worth. I’ve grown in ways I never expected, both personally and professionally, and I’m confident I’ll land exactly where I’m meant to be next. Everything happens for a reason… and I know this is just the start of a new chapter.”
While WMTX hasn’t yet revealed its plans for the coveted morning time slot, the rumor mill is already churning. Adding fuel to the fire, a former Tampa-area morning show team is teasing a potential return to the market, promising a big announcement on Thursday morning at 8 am. Could this be the dynamic duo that will fill Brody's shoes? Or will WMTX go in a completely different direction? One thing is certain: the Tampa radio scene is about to get a whole lot more interesting. What kind of morning show would you like to hear on Mix 100.7? A fresh, new voice? A familiar face?
